Boko Haram: Police Now Operate Under Trees
Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim, the commissioner of
police in Yobe state, said policemen have been forced to operate some of
their offices under trees following the burning down of police offices
and buildings in the state by Boko Haram insurgents.
According to him, apart from one or two structures, no other structure is standing in the command, The Nation reports.
“All others have been destroyed. Both the OC CID and MOPOL, operate under trees with extreme difficulties. Most of the officers live in rented houses, make shift offices and under trees,” he said.
He told AIG Tunde Ogunsakin, the visiting assistant inspector general of police in Zone 12, that his visit will boost the morale of police in their operations.
The insurgents in Northern Nigeria have killed over 20,000 people, with Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe most affected. In July, suspected members of the Boko Haram terrorist group attacked Gamdu town, killing 11 residents and taking over the Damaturu-Maiduguri highway.
