REMITA SAGA: Jonathan Govt Never Signed Agreement With The Company.
The official at the Federal Ministry of Finance have confirmed that the outrageous agreement between SystemSpec on the use of REMITA software as a payment platform has nothing to do former President Goodluck Jonathan, as they did not sign any agreement.
In related development, according to Hope For Nigeria, Mallam Umar Sani former Press SSA to Vice President Namadi Sambo explained that their government never signed any deal with Remita.
He went further to say that, "the government as at that time began the implementation of TSA through the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), a World Bank assisted Project domiciled in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation and it is through GIFMIS that all government Budget (Personnel, Overhead, Capital, Transfers etc) transactions are carried out, so why do they need Remitta?
Mallam Sani added, "I can categorically tell you that it is the new Accountant General, Mallam Ahmed Idris, that put forward the Remitta proposal, but some other Directors led by the Director, Funds (Dikwa) vehemently opposed it on the grounds that government cannot have more than one payment platform and instead of using Remita to implement TSA, GIFMIS should be used".
On Friday, a CBN officer told Hope For Nigeria that the Central Bank of Nigeria have its own bespoke software for e-Payments and e-Collections and there is no need for REMITA.
According to report, the Nigerian senate confirmed that REMITA system is costing Nigeria about N25billion a day and that Nigeria has been billed N60billion since the Buhari government agreed to pay the company 1% commission on their gross transaction. It is projected that Nigeria will be paying REMITA/SystemSpec over N6trillion in a year. - Hope For Nigeria.
