There is more to obtaining a professional look than just wearing a suit to the office. As the times are changing, there is so much you can do to improve your professional look. Here are five simple tips that can help:
- Don’t get too casual: I understand that we have a casual Friday look at most offices in Nigeria, but don’t look like you’re running an errand. Instead, try pairing a polo or button down shirt with a pair of fitted chinos with brogues.
- Check your undershirt: Most times, toward the end of the work day you just want to loosen up the tie and undo a few of the buttons. Ensure that you don’t look sloppy by wearing a v-neck undershirt, especially one in grey that won’t show through a shirt.
- Get the right bag: It’s not okay to use your gym bag or your errand bag as a briefcase. Rather, you should aim for a leather bag with some quality, most likely in a neutral color with enough space for your laptop and other essentials.
- Don’t mistreat your suit: You may have bought some suits and now reached a point in your life when you don’t need it so much anymore. However, that doesn’t mean you should throw it away, instead split the pieces and pair them with other pieces for a full outfit.
- Do denim right: Don’t let your TGIF celebration get too wild. If you wear denim to the office, make sure that they are denim that fit and still make you look presentable. You may not want to go full skinny or baggy, instead something that fits and is rich in color.
