President Buhari has so far made 12 foreign trips...let's tell you about them!

Since May 29, when Muhammadu Buhari was sworn into office as the president of Nigeria, he has undertaken different journeys to about a dozen countries around the world.

Many Nigerians have lashed out at his frequent traveling schedule, stating that there were pressing issues to be dealt with within the country like the increased spate of terrorist bombings in the North, the failing economy and the seemingly unending fuel scarcity crisis.

Some have however, justified the visits as part of the burden of the job of the president of a growing nation like Nigeria.
Here are the 12 places Buhari has visited since he became president 183 days ago.
1. Niger 
  

 Buhari visited Niger Republic on June 3, to discuss with President Mahamadou Issoufou on security issues and tackling the menacing Boko Haram terrorist sect that has continually been a thorn in both country’s flesh.

2. Chad 

 From his meeting in Niger Republic, on June 4, President Buhari proceeded to visit Chad, also a neighboring country to further discuss the security challenges posed by terrorism to nations in the region.
3. Germany
 
Two days after returning from Niger and Chad, the president took off to Germany for the G-7 summit. He traveled in company of Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola and the governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima. 
4. South Africa

 

Next on his Buhari’s travel schedule was the trip to South Africa on June 15 to attend the 25th AU Summit where he chaired the Peace and Security Committee of the African Union
5. Cameroon
 President Muhammadu Buhari visited Cameroon on Wednesday, July 29 where he had a closed-door meeting with Paul Biya, the president of the country at the Cameroonian State House called ‘Unity Palace’, where they discussed bilateral relations, Boko Haram, among other matters. 
6. Benin Republic
 On August 1, the president visited Benin Republic to continue talks on the menace of Boko Haram terrorist sect. During the visit, he was conferred with the traditional title ‘Manahouwhe’ Gbede’, which means “I will never forget you”. 
7. Ghana
 On September 7, Buhari arrived in Ghana where he was received by President John Mahama. During a press conference he held in Ghana, Buhari revealed he would name his cabinet members before the end of the month. 
8. France
 On September 14, following an invitation from French President, Francois Hollande, Buhari embarked on a 3-day official visit to France where he discussed military cooperation between Nigeria and France. 
10. India
 On October 27, Buhari visited New Delhi, India to participate in the 3rd Summit of the India-Africa Foru. He was joined by other African leaders at the forum. 
11.Iran
 The president on Sunday, November 22, was received by Iranian deputy president, Shariat Madri at the Mehrabad International Airport. He visited Tehran, Iran to be a part of the Gas Exporting Countries (GECF) summit. 
12. Malta
 On Friday, November 27, Buhari left the shores of the country to Malta to participate in the 2015 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. The Commonwealth is made up of Britain, Nigeria and 51 other countries that work together to pursue common goals and promote development, democracy, peace, security and good governance.
