Suspected illegal oil bunkers have engaged soldiers attached to Operation Messa in gun battle at 4th Avenue, Festac area of Lagos state.

According to reports, the bunkers were shooting sporadically into the air for over an hour now. An eye-witness who did not give his name said that the oil bunkers came heavily armed.
‘They are a gang but I was able to see three of the gang. I was also lucky not to have an altercation with them,’ he said.

Also, residents in the area say the bunkering operation began at around 5am with sporadic gunshots. It took soldiers about 1.30 minutes to respond to distress calls from the residents. The soldiers blocked roads leading to 4th avenue junction and are said to be on the chase of the bunkers.

However, commercial activities in Festac are grounded, banks have remained shut for fear of robbery attack.
