Pro-Biafra Agitation: El-Rufa’i Sues For Calm, Commends Residents

Following the agitations in the South-east for the state of Biafra, the Kaduna state government yesterday appealed to all residents to remain calm, and continue with their lawful activities, noting that their peace and security was guaranteed.
A statement issued by the Special Assistant to Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i of Kaduna state on Media and Publicity, Mr Samuel Aruwan, said the governor commended the people for preserving peace, law, order and harmony across the communities.
The statement said: “Following reports of the recent violent agitations in parts of the South-east zone, the government urges our communities to shun any and every attempt at provocation. It is clear that some elements in the polity wish to divide our people, and to profit from discord.
“Part of their goal seems to be to attack some members of an ethnic or religious community in order to stoke anger and trigger a reaction by that community. These losers will not be allowed to divide the country or to escape justice by converting their criminality into a religious war.
“The government assures the people that the long arms of the law will catch up with those stoking the violence, prejudice and hatred. There is no doubting the resolve of the new government in Nigeria in ensuring that justice prevails everywhere. Every Nigerian is entitled to security and safety wherever they live''
