RELIGION Gay marriage: British Anglican Priest blast Nigerian Bishops, says they misunderstand English Christianity

Giles Fraser, a priest of the Church of England has blasted the Bishops of the Nigerian Anglican Communion over the issue of gay marriage. Fraser in an opinion for the Guardian congratulating the recent marriage of John and John by the church in England, said that Nigerian priests are trying to bully the Church of England over its own interpretation of scripture. Fraser who is the Parish priest of St Mary’s, Newington, remarked;

“Whatever the prince bishops of Uganda and Nigeria think, they fundamentally misunderstand English Christianity if they believe they can bully us into their own reading of scripture.” What I find in the Bible is a gradually expanding consciousness that God is love and not an instrument of oppression. And there is always more of that inclusive love to discover.

Fraser said that noted that the current hierarchy of the Church of England has banned homosexual marriages, he explained that ‘the Dutch church in Austin Friars, is able to conduct the ceremony because of a little-known historical loophole. In 1550, Edward VI granted a charter to Protestant refugees living in London, giving them the same privileges as the Church of England.’

So congratulations to John and John. You are why the reformation of the church in England remains a work-in-progress.” he said.

The Nigerian Anglican communion has refused to conduct homosexual marriages and even threatened on occasion to break away from the Church of England should it decide to go ahead with the proposal.

In other news the priest has just gotten engaged to his girlfriend. He announced on twitter that he is ‘Delighted to announce my engagement to the lovely Lynn Tandler.’ One would have thought, he wishes to marry a man. The Joke is on
