Femi Makinde, Osogbo
An Osogbo Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo has sentenced a
19-year-old boy, Kabiru Abdulahi, to six months imprisonment for
stealing a mattress worth about N8,000.00.
The police prosecutor, Mr. Abiodun Fagboyin, told the court that
the offence committed by the teenager was contrary to and punishable
under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Law of Osun State.
Abdulahi, who was arraigned before the magistrate, Olusola Aluko,
pleaded guilty to the one count of stealing preferred against him.
He burst into tears and pleaded for mercy. He told the court that
he thought the mattress was thrown away to where he picked it from.
Aluko while delivering the judgment sentenced Abdulahi to six
months imprisonment with an option of N5,000.00 (five thousand naira.)
The young convict who could not afford to pay the fine continued
to cry for mercy as the prison officials bundled him into the vehicle
for movement to Ilesa Prison.
The convict was however fortunate as a man passing by outside the court premises heard him crying and paid the fine.
Abdulahi was released after the fine was been paid.
