Valentine: `Distributing condom openly in Abuja is like encouraging immoralities, evil"

Civil Society Groups and health Related NGO’s, distributed free condoms in Abuja. There was divergent opinions as FCT residents expressed their dissatifaction as condoms were being distributed in parks and also in event centers, although some welcomed the idea as Valentine celebration is approaching.
A teacher said distribution of condoms is not something new and the purpose is to prevent the spread of Sexually Transmitted Diseases STD and other infections.
A civil  servant who admitted she was given 10 rolls of condoms said there is nothing wrong with the development, that the groups are using the occasion of valentine to sex education about the danger involved in having unprotected sex.
She said as sex education is given to children at home and also the use of condoms, she sees nothing wrong in what the NGO’s are doing.
Miss Uche said the distribution encourages immoralities and evils in the society and she said emphasis should be placed on teaching moral values instead of distribution of condoms.
Mr Felix, a journalist and also a Pastor said people are misinterpreting what Valentine is all about. He continue by saying there is a difference between love and sex. He said valentine’s day is a day to celebrate the love of GOD and to show our neighbours love too, and that people take advantage of the day by focus on sex and lust.
Thereby distribbution of condoms encourages fornication and adultery, and that Valentine’s day should not be used as an excuse for erotic love rather than to celebrate the love and care received from our lovee ones.
He thereby urges NGO’s to distribute materials that will encourage genuine love amongs the public and the encouragement of sexual encounter between people that are not partners should be discourage.
