A heartbreaking footage has shown a newborn baby abandoned by its mother inside a bucket with the umbilical cord still intact.
The baby has been saved and is now in intensive care
A newborn baby was found abandoned in a bucket of water by a
policeman who quickly ran to a nearby hospital in a bid to save its
life.
The remarkable footage was captured on the body cam of an officer who accompanied the baby to the intensive care unit.
The baby still had the umbilical cord attached to it and was
covered in amniotic fluid when he was taken out of the green bucket.
Weighing just 3lbs 1oz, doctors believe the tiny tot was born
around a month premature. It was a member of the public who discovered
the baby before alerting the police.
The police didn't wait for an ambulance to arrive but grabbed the child.
The baby was rushed to the nearby hospital as officers advised
hospital staff to make the intensive care unit ready because of the
baby's condition. The newborn was diagnosed with hypothermia and the
baby's mother is still being hunted.
The incident happened in the Santiago de Cali area of west Colombia.
