For two new parents pregnancy means not one, not two, but three times the surprises.
1. More Than They Bargained For
Surprise, you're having a baby! Er...two babies! You're having
twins! At Brenda's visit to the doctor for an ultrasound, her and
husband Scott were informed of their two-for-one surprise.
2. Scary Complications
But in the same appointment, long before the news of twins
could even begin to sink in, they were also handed difficult news about
the two babies nestled in Brenda's womb.
3. A Scary Thought
Because they were so close together, at first glance the doctor was under the impression they were conjoined.
4. Even Rarer Still
Upon closer look, however, it turned out her twins were cuddled
up in the same gestational sac instead of each having the typical one
of their own.
5. A Heavy Burden
The rare situation, called monochorionic-monoamniotic, made
these twins a special kind; "momo twins." It only occurs in a tiny 1% of
twin pregnancies and when discovered, means mom needs to be resting
nearly 100% of the time she's carrying them. That's right... nearly 100%
of the time.
6. Doctor's Orders
Staying rested and stress-free was quite the challenge for mom Brenda, as it should naturally be.
7. Attention To Detail
Brenda and Scott were extremely cautious during the pregnancy
as they had to face the possibility of their twins becoming entangled in
one another's umbilical cords at any point during the pregnancy, which
would lead to death.
8. Extra Supervision
But calmly and carefully, Brenda brought them to life safely.
It was at 25 weeks into her pregnancy she checked into the hospital to
be monitored around the clock.
9. It Was All Worth It
After five long weeks there, she went into labor two weeks
short of her due date. Later that happy day, two beautiful girls named
Abigail and Skylar were born!
