Vanity Fair’s 2016 Hollywood issue (Photo: Vanity Fair)This year Vanity Fair’s
Hollywood issue, an annual tradition in which Annie Leibovitz
photographs a pile of actors of assorted style and sheen, features not a
single Y chromosome. Sorry men, you’re going to need to look to
literally any other media tradition, awards body, institution, or
government agency to celebrate you.
The
women featured in this year’s issue are, from left to right: Jane
Fonda, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Lawrence, Viola Davis, Charlotte
Rampling, Brie Larson, Rachel Weisz, Lupita Nyong’o, Alicia Vikander,
Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Helen Mirren, Saoirse Ronan, and, down there at the
end, Diane Keaton, where it’s clear a space heater would have been nice.
Last
year’s cover featured just 40 percent women (Amy Adams, Reese
Witherspoon, Felicity Jones, and Sienna Miller), while another 10
percent was dedicated to Miles Teller’s mustache.

Of the styling, Jessica Diehl, Vanity Fair’s
fashion and style director, said: “The dresses on the cover are all
black because that lets each actress’s face stand out — faces that are
expressive, and in many cases even transformative.”
In an additional featurette, all of this year’s VF
cover stars share their secret talents: Jennifer Lawrence is a talented
mime, Cate Blanchett can do the splits, and we won’t spoil Jane Fonda’s
but suffice to say it is the most Jane Fonda secret talent imaginable.
