In a bid to share love this season, particularly with people in dire need, staff members of Wema Bank Plc each donated a day’s salary for love, in an initiative they named Purple Nectar.
The initiative, designed to touch 10 lives positively while celebrating this year’s Valentine Day, was driven by staff with the support of management of the bank.
The individuals were selected by staff across the regions in Nigeria. They currently face serious health issues/challenges ranging from cancer, kidney failure, polio, abandonment as well as other difficult life situations.
According to a statement from the bank, the donated salaries would be split equally among the beneficiaries.
Members of the public were also encouraged to go to a designated website to drop their valentine wishes for Wema bank’s staff special valentines, adding that the love messages would be presented to them alongside donations from Wema Bank staff.
Managing Director, Wema Bank, Mr. Segun Oloketuyi, in his remarks said: “As we celebrate the Valentine day with our loved ones, there are people around us who need a hand of love, staff of Wema Bank on their own volition, decided to share their love and give hope to people this season. This also serves as an opportunity for us to encourage the act of giving and affecting the lives of people positively.”
He also stated that: “We believe that giving back to the less privileged in our communities is a prerequisite for the overall development of the country. And staffs of the bank are committed to paying the price to help make this happen.”
