Nigerian Army arrests 28 suspected terroristsNo fewer than 28 terror suspects have been arrested by the Nigerian army in Jigawa, Kano and Katsina states, the commander of third Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Kano, Brigadier General Hamisu Hassan has said.
General Hassan who stated this yesterday, when he paid courtesy visit to Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari gave a breakdown of the arrests as 17 in Kano, 10 in Jigawa and one in Katsina states.
Hassan said the arrests were done during about 28 operations against terrorism that were carried out within the catchment of the Brigade.
General Hassan disclosed that the army had conducted 93 operations against cattle rustling with so many recoveries within Rugu forest in Katsina State.
He stressed the need for collaboration between the army and Katsina, Zamfara, Kano, Jigawa and Bauchi states in combing Rugu and Falgore forests to fish out armed bandits and lauded Governor Masari for spearheading the fight against cattle rustling.
Responding, Governor Aminu Bello Masari pledged total support to the ongoing war against armed banditry in the North-West Zone assuring that no effort would be spared to ensure the military work in unison in combating the menace.
Masari said Katsina State would provide security agencies with all the necessary support and available resources to prevent armed banditry.
Governor Masari noted that the armed forces had in the last six months proved capable of dealing with insurgency in parts of the country.
