The Passion, Christian celebrity Tyler Perry’s modern spin on the Easter story, recently aired on Fox.
Christianity Today reports that the performance is a modern-day take on
Jesus’ passion and featured American-Idol singer Chris Daughtry as
Judas, as well as other celebrities who sang spiritual songs throughout
the performance.
The Jesus of Perry’s The Passion has, according to Brandon D. Smith of Christianity Today, “perfectly crafted hair and modern clothes.”
The performance received mixed reviews. Smith says it showed him that
the real setting of the Easter story truly fit the story the best.
Crosswalk.com reviewer Jason Soroski, however, noted that The Passion was a pleasant surprise:
“The crazy thing is that it was pointedly Gospel oriented without
coming across as preachy or contrived, in part because of the unique
format,” said Soroski.
Back in January Perry expressed his enthusiasm for the show.
“I'm excited to host and narrate #ThePassionLive, a musical event that airs live March 20 on Fox,” he said.
Did you watch The Passion? What did you think?
