NC Gov. Amends ‘Bathroom Bill’ to Allow Private Establishments to Set Own Rules

 

 

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has partially amended House Bill 2 to allow private businesses to establish their own rules on bathroom use.

 

According to ChristianToday.com, McCrory signed Executive Order 39 on Tuesday. Under the order, "private businesses can set their own rules for their own restroom, locker room and shower facilities, free from government interference."

 

Also under the executive order, state agencies, cities, counties, schools and the state’s college systems must delegate their restrooms based on biological sex.

 

"I have come to the conclusion that there is a great deal of misinformation, misinterpretation, confusion, a lot of passion and frankly, selective outrage and hypocrisy, especially against the great state of North Carolina," he said.

 

House Bill 2 says that these places can set bathroom rules and not face discrimination charges.

 

Three individuals, the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina and Equality North Carolina have sued McCrory, Attorney General Roy Cooper III and the University of North Carolina over the house bill, arguing that the law discriminates against transgenders.

 

In the wake of House Bill 2, the Deutsche Bank said it is stalling its plans to expand in North Carolina. PayPal also announced that it was withdrawing plans to build a $3.6 million operation center in North Carolina.
