Phil Robertson Prays before NASCAR Event, Calls on Americans to 'Put a Jesus Man in the White House'

 

 

Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson recently gave the prayer before a NASCAR event in Texas where he prayed that Americans wouldn’t forget their Christian roots.

 

According to Christian Today, the Duck Dynasty patriarch spoke to the crowd gathered at the Texas Motor Speedway saying, "All right Texas, we got here via Bibles and guns, I'm fixing to pray to the One who made that possible."

 

Robertson then prayed, "Father, thank you for founding our nation. I pray Father that we don't forget who brought us — You. Our faith in the blood of Jesus and His resurrection. Help us Father to get back to that." 

 

Robertson also prayed that America would elect a president who follows the Lord, praying he hoped the country would “put a Jesus man in the White House.” He also prayed for those serving in the U.S. military.

 

Robertson’s prayer received mixed reviews. 

 

Some called the prayer a “complete disaster”; however, others praised Robertson’s straight talk.

 

Political Science Professor Matthew Wilson, who teaches at Southern Methodist University told Fox News that though Robertson’s prayer may have left no doubt where he stands on certain issues,"He didn't call out any particular groups, he didn't insult any particular populations... so if the mere mention of the support of gun rights, Christianity, and the U.S. military is offensive to anybody they probably don't belong at a NASCAR race."

 

Lesley Dathe, an attendee of the NASCAR event, also praised Robertson’s unapologetic prayer: "Everybody's afraid of hurting everyone's feelings. It's freedom of speech - I think you should be able to say what you want," she said.

 

Robertson has come out in support of Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, while his son, Willie Robertson, supports Donald Trump, Cruz’s rival.
