Tow Truck Driver Says God Told Him to Refuse Service to Bernie Sanders Supporter

 

 

A Christian tow truck driver refused to tow a disabled woman’s car because she was a Bernie Sanders supporter. According to Fox Carolina, Kenneth Shupe, owner of Shupee Max Towing in Traveler’s Rest, South Carolina, received a call to pick up Cassandra McWade, whose car was not drivable after an accident on the highway.

 

Shupe made the drive to Asheville, North Carolina where McWade was stranded, but refused towing service when he noticed a Bernie Sanders bumper sticker and poster on the car.  

 

Shupe said, "Something came over me, I think the Lord came to me, and he just said get in the truck and leave. And when I got in my truck, you know, I was so proud, because I felt like I finally drew a line in the sand and stood up for what I believed."

 

The tow truck owner allegedly told McWade she was “obviously a socialist” and suggested she “call the government” for help. 

 

McWade, who suffers from psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and early-stage Crohns, was left alone on the highway until another tow truck could pick her up. She called the experience “terrifying.” 

 

Shupe, a professed Donald Trump supporter, said he refused to tow McWade because he had bad experiences with Bernie Sanders supporters in the past. 

 

"I've had some horrible experiences in the last six months with towing cars for this mindset individuals, in that I don't get paid. They want to argue about a $50 tow bill, and it turns into just a drama and a fuss. And I said, you know, I'm not going to associate with them, and I'm not going to do any business with them.”

 

According to Shupe, he did not know McWade was disabled. However, McWade’s handicap tag was hanging in her mirror at the time of the incident. Also, the McWade family says Shupe was informed of her condition when he received the call. 

 

Shupe said, "Had she been disabled, would I have towed her car? No ma'am. I would have pulled forward and sat there with her to make sure she was okay until another wrecker service showed up to get her home safely, but I still would not have towed her car. I stand by my decision, and I would do it again today if the opportunity presented itself."
