Aliko Dangote, owner of Dangote Group
It was chaos and shouts as workers of Dangote Cement Company at
Tema Community demonstrated on Friday against management over what they
described as low salaries and bad working conditions.
The incident which happened in Ghana caused uproar as some
aggrieved workers who spoke to AdomOnline News, complained about the
delay in paying their monthly salaries which according to them has
brought untold hardships to them and their families.
Dangote Cement local Union Chairman, Thomas Emgba lambasted the
management over the shoddy manner it has been handling their concerns
which prompted workers to demonstrate.
He said since 2010, there had not been any increment in their
salaries, neither had they received any bonus and therefore protesting
for what is due them was the best option.
“Ever since we started working in this company, our salaries
have not even been increased. Our work load is very dangerous and that
is why we expect more but they are rather taking us for granted. We
cannot even perform in bed anymore and so we hope they listen to us” he said.
The demonstration grounded work at the company complex.
