A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Allain
John-Morrison, who is a former Councillor of Ward 1, in the Abua/Odua
Local Government Area of Rivers State, has been ambushed and killed by
some gunmen in military uniforms while heading towards the Ahoada area
on a motorcycle on Tuesday.
According to Punch,
the killers had trailed the victim to a lonely place around Okobuo
village before beheading him and spared the motorcyclist that carried
him.
Online reports revealed that the victim was killed while returning
from Port Harcourt where an Appeal Court had ruled in favour of his
party in a case involving 22 sacked local government chairmen.
A former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Abua/Odua LGA, Gift Igoma,
who confirmed the incident to correspondents, said the victim was
killed around 6:00am along Abua/Ahoada Road by suspected assassins.
Igoma said the okada rider who reported the incident to the police
and escaped by a whisker, told people at the police station that the
killers were three, adding that they were in military uniform.
He described the killing as horrific, calling on security agencies to investigate the murder.
