Egypt: Christian Convert Miraculously Unharmed by Vicious Dogs

 

 

An Egyptian Muslim man who converted to Christianity and consequently was imprisoned and tortured miraculously escaped being attacked and killed by vicious dogs.

 

According to ChristianToday.com, Majed El Shafie gave his life to Christ after hearing about Jesus from a friend and studying the Bible. 

 

El Shafie had been a lawyer and was influential in his community. When he became a Christian, he was forbidden from practising law and taken to Abu Zaabel prison in Cairo, known as “Hell on Earth.”

 

While in prison, El Shafie was subjected to many forms of torture, including being burned, cut, and tied to a cross as his assailants sought to draw a confession from him about other Christians. 

 

Another torture El Shafie faced was attacks by vicious dogs which the prison guards brought in to maul him. However, like the biblical story of Daniel in the Lions’ Den, the dogs simple sat near El Shafie without harming him. His captors even brought in a different pack of dogs, but the same thing happened.

 

"These dogs are trained to listen to their masters," El Shafie said. "But there is no higher Master than the Lord Jesus Christ."

 

On the fourth day of his torture, El Shafie “agreed” to confess to his captors:

 

"I can't remember the names, but I'll tell you the name of our leader, and if you can catch him, he can tell you exactly the names of all the members,” he said. "The name of our leader is Jesus Christ. If you can catch Him, catch Him."

 

El Shafie was brutally tortured more after this “confession.” Eventually, however, he was taken to a hospital to recover from his wounds, but was afterward sentenced to death.

 

With the help of friends, he escaped to Israel, and eventually to Canada, where he became a Canadian citizen and now works to help persecuted Christians. 

 

"Persecuted Christians are dying every day, but they are still smiling. They are in a very deep dark night, but they still have the candles of the living God," El Shafie said. "Our enemies have a very strong army, have very strong weapons, but we have the Lord Almighty. They can kill the dreamer, but no one can kill the dream."
