A new report says that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is Donald Trump’s first choice for vice president.
The report from The Washington Post says the Gingrich, who
unsuccessfully launched a bid for the 2012 Republican presidential seat,
is the frontrunner to become Trump’s running mate.
According to TheBlaze.com, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has
endorsed Trump, is in second place in the race to become Trump’s running
mate.
The vetting process may have already started for Christie and Gingrich,
which includes answering some 100 questions from attorney Arthur B.
Culvahouse, Jr. He vetted former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for John
McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign.
Sources, however, say Trump could still change his list for running
mates. Other contenders could include Republican Sens. Jeff Sessions
(Ala.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.). Lower down on the list are Republican
Sens. Richard Burr (N.C.), Tom Cotton (Ark.), John Thune (S.D.) and Joni
Ernst (Iowa), and Govs. Mike Pence (Ind.) and Mary Fallin (Okla.).
Trump has previously said he is looking for a VP candidate who has experience and push work with Congress.
“(Trump would) be coming in as an outsider, and that has fueled his
popularity,” said Dallas pastor Robert Jeffress. “But he is the first to
admit that he doesn’t know all the ways of Washington. So to actually
push what he wants through, he’s willing to reach out and get somebody
to lend a hand.”
The GOP Convention in Cleveland is less than three weeks away.
