Angry neighbours have mercilessly beaten a man and his daughter to
death on Saturday on suspicion of causing the death of a boy who was
recently circumcised in Sirisia, Bungoma Constituency of Kenya.
The 78-year-old man only identified as Wanjala and his daughter
Dina Nasike, were beaten to death in separate incidents after being
accused of bewitching the teenager.
The Kenyans reported that the man died after being hit with blunt
objects while his daughter was found a few metres away lifeless.
According to neighbours, the two had uttered words which allegedly
caused the death of 12-year-old Amos Wanjala, who developed weird
complications and died a week after undergoing circumcision.
"Wanjala developed complications three days later and was
rushed to Bungoma referral hospital and then to Moi Hospital in Eldoret.
Doctors said that the boy was not sick after tests were done," claimed one of the residents.
The wife of the deceased was also rescued from the mob which had
associated her with the same witchcraft accusations. The woman was taken
to the area police camp for protection.
Villagers alleged that it was not the first time the three had used
charms to kill enemies, claims that were strongly refuted by a brother
to the slain man.
Addressing journalists after the incident, area parliamentary
aspirant Moses Nandalwe cautioned residents against the law into their
own hands.
