Governor Abdulaziz Yari
Following the intervention of traditional rulers and other
stakeholders, the embattled Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State has
finally escaped impeachment by members of the state House of Assembly.
The governor who spoke to newsmen shortly after a reconciliation meeting, which lasted for 20 minutes yesterday, said: “We met and resolved our misunderstandings. The cordial relationship between the integral arms has returned.”
According to Vanguard, the meeting was attended by all the emirs of
the state and presided over by the state Chairman of All Progressives
Congress, APC, Alhaji Lawal Kaura.
Also speaking, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Sanusi Garba
Rikiji, said all the terms and conditions for the reconciliation were
considered by Governor Yari and the party leadership.
Rikiji also assured of required support and cooperation from the
lawmakers of the state, adding that they were satisfied with the level
of mediation brokered by the respected politicians and traditional
rulers from within and outside the state.
He said: “We have virtually reconciled based on the terms and
conditions we have signed. It is obvious that our primary duty as
lawmakers is to aspire for the development of the state as contained in
the country’s constitution.”
It would be recalled that a couple of weeks ago, the relationship between the legislature and the executive went sour.
