Transgender man (left) who was born a woman gave birth to a baby with his partner (right) who was born a man
Fernando Machado who was born a woman and his partner, Diane
Rodriguez who was born a man, have welcomed their first baby as they
make history to become the first transgender couple in South America to
give birth to their own baby.
According toDailymail,
the new parents, from Ecuador, in an exclusive interview, opened up
about life with their new baby who they have not named, but the
16-week-old is affectionately referred to as Caraote - which means 'the snail'.
The couple and their baby
'We are the same as other families. Even though we might not
have the same rights, we're the same. We don't have a name yet - or
rather we do - we are just waiting to announce it,' Machado told the BBC.
Ms Rodriguez, who was born male as Luis, spoke about how she never thought she would know the joy of being a parent.
The transgender
'Being a mother was never something I thought I would do
because I am a transsexual. The law before demanded that to be
recognised as a woman you had to be castrated,' she said.
The couple have not undergone full gender reassignment and were therefore able to conceive naturally.
