The lawmakers engaging in a physical fight
A mild drama has played out recently in Runyenjes, Embu County in
Kenya as a female Member of Parliament (MP) was on Sunday involved in a
physical altercation with a Senator during a public gathering.
Kenyans reports that Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire engaged in a near
fist fight with Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti regarding who would vie for
the County's gubernatorial seat.
Chaos erupted when Ms Mbarire attempted to take away the microphone
from Mr Kivuti whom she accused of hurling abuses in her own backyard.
“Lenny Kivuti, who are you to come abuse me in front of my own people. Are you the one who commands us here?” she posed.
The matter took an ugly turn when both expressed their intention to
vie for the governor's seat under the newly launched Jubilee Party
ticket.
Police were forced to intervene and break what was almost turning
into a physical fight between the two legislators. Amid the
confrontation, their supporters turned rowdy and begun tearing apart
each other's placards.
Senator Kivuti accused the MP of paying intoxicated goons to jeer
him while on the other hand, Ms Mbarire claimed Senator Kivuti had
turned up at the gathering while drunk.
The event was later called off as situation threatened to turn violent.
The leaders, who have previously opposed sitting governor Martin
Wambora, are said to be battling to unseat the county boss in the 2017
election.
