The man identified as one Mr. I. Franklyn, has tried to kill himself in court.
Franklyn was standing trial for allegedly r*ping his 17-year-old
daughter, yesterday, at Rivers State judiciary complex, Port Harcourt,
when he attempted to commit suicide.
Vanguard reports that during the trial, the accused, aged 38,
suddenly grabbed one piece of tile among the ones brought to court as
exhibit, and stabbed himself.
The accused made the attempt on his life after Chief Magistrate F.
Amanze, adjourned his case to December 23 for mention and ordered that
he be remanded at the Port Harcourt prison.
Chief Magistrate Amanze also referred the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for further action.
A prison official told newsmen that the accused allegedly r*ped his
daughter on September 23 in Okujagu community, Port Harcourt City Local
Government and chained the little girl in the house, until she was
rescued by neighbours.
