A north London vicar has applied for an alcohol license for his church.
Fr Tom Plant, from St
Michael's church in Camden, is waiting to hear if his application has
been approved, saying Jesus "turned water into wine for a reason".
He is in the process of converting the church into a live music venue with a stage and bar as well as show lighting and a sound system, if Camden Council approve the application.
Fr Tom Plant hopes that it will allow bands to play to crowds of around 300 people.
Speaking to The Telegraph he said there is no danger of damage to the building.
He said: "The windows are too high to get smashed and we're not talking here about metal gigs and a mosh pit.
"We're not precious about the floor - St Michael's is a glorious place but it is faded glory.
"It's not a place to come and get drunk, but we're not a church that shies away from alcohol.
"We believe Jesus turned water into wine for a reason."
The vicar told the congregation it will not turn into a night club and will be for smaller acts and poets.
He finished: "We see it as outreach, not Bible-bashing, but welcoming people in."
Camden Council has no yet responded to his application.
