There
was anxiety on Monday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja
after a passenger from Owerri, slumped and died at the arrival hall of
the airport.
Air passengers at the arrival hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe
International Airport Abuja (NAIA) late on Monday, experienced fear and
anxiety when an Abuja-bound passenger from Owerri, the Imo State
capital, slumped and died at about 5.45p.m.
Speaking to a ThisDay correspondent, a competent source who
demanded for anonymity when the incident occurred, said the passenger
arrived the airport with his personal physician from Abuja via Air Peace
airline at about 5.45p.m.
The incident, which caused some anxiety at the airport, the source
said, was calmed down following the arrival of the Nigerian Airspace
Management Agency (NAMA) ambulance.
The acting Manager, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN),
Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, who confirmed the incident on the phone, said the
passenger arrived Abuja, but slumped at the arrival hall of the
airport.
She could not however confirm whether the passenger died or not, adding: “It is true, that an Abuja-bound passenger from Owerri who came with his family actually collapsed.”
She stressed further: “I cannot now say whether, the person
died or not, as I’m aware that he came with his family members and had
been conveyed to a private hospital.”
