Christians to Participate in 'Bless Friday,' a God-Centered Alternative to Black Friday

Many churches and Christians will be taking part in “Bless Friday” this year--an effort to transform the materialistic day of Black Friday into an opportunity to serve and share Christ’s love.

 

According to OneNewsNow, Bless Friday was launched in 2010 and will be observed this year in two states, Texas and Washington.
Instead of spending the day shopping and trying to get the best sales, participants in Bless Friday aim to serve the homeless and spread Christmas cheer to those in need.
"We want to begin our Christmas celebration by serving others just as Jesus did,” shared Mike and Debbie Black. “Placing the focus on Jesus at the beginning of Christmas transforms how we experience the whole season."
Mike Black is pastor of Trinity Church of God, a Texas church participating in Bless Friday.

Members of Trinity Church of God will be delivering comfort baskets for the elderly. In Houston, where the movement was launched six years ago, churches will be partnering with a local medical clinic ministry to deliver cookies to patients and their families.
Bless Friday founder Chuck Fox explains why the effort is so needed in our culture:
"At a time when fault lines in our country have been exposed, Christians across the political spectrum are uniting in Christ by serving our communities. You don't have to be a member of these churches to participate. Just pick an activity that honors Christ, gather together your family and friends, and start your Christmas celebration with service."
