I Won't Return to Nigeria Again Unless... - Abdulmumin Jibrin Goes on Exile, Alleges Assassination Plot

Suspended lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin, on Monday said he had proceeded on exile in the United Kingdom.

 

Speaking in an exclusive interview when he appeared on a Ben Television program in London on Monday, embattled member of federal house of representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, said he had proceeded on exile in the United Kingdom, and blamed the budget padding scandal rocking the lower chamber for the decision.

 

The suspended lawmaker said he had recently discovered that his security was no longer guaranteed and, as such, it would be foolhardy if he remained in the country.

 

Jibrin said a purported five-man cabal led by Speaker Yakubu Dogara was plotting to either kidnap him or assassinate him or members of his family. Other alleged members of the cabal included Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun; Minority Leader, Leo Ogor; House Whip Alhassan Ado-Doguwa and a member, Herma Hembe.

 

Below is his official statement he posted on Twitter.

 

"I won't return to Nigeria Unless my safety is guaranteed: I have raised alarm that the House cabal led by Speaker Dogara.

 

"Deputy Speaker Lasun, Whip Doguwa and Minority Leader Ogor are using Hon Hembe to either assassinate or kidnap me or members of my family.

 

"The initial silence of the PMB on the matter was a blessing in disguise bcos if the President had spoken much earlier he would have been accused of using me to fight the House Leadership but the time is now ripe and the crisis mature for the President to break his silence.

 

"As the silence of the presidency at this stage is not sending the right message to Nigerians and the international community.

 

"I have written to Mr President few weeks ago seeking audience to brief him about the allegations of budget fraud&corruption in the House and share some infos on how to check corruption in the House and fraud in budget process and reform the House for the good of our country.

 

"I have been in the House for 5 years and have never abuse my office or corruptly enrich myself and no body has accused me of that I will now take the campaign to international stage by reaching out to foreign governments, parliaments, media, civil society groups and Nigerians in Diaspora to press for the arrest and prosecution of Speaker Dogara, Lasun,Doguwa, Ogor and other corrupt members the House."
