Gunmen have invaded unit 16, ward 8 in Ikwerre Local Government
Area of Rivers State, the home country of Chibuike Amaechi and hijacked
electoral material, Punch reports.
It was gathered that the incident took place in the afternoon when
the gunmen stormed the polling unit and shot sporadically in the air
forcing voters to flee for their lives before hijacking the material
into the bush around.
One of the voters, Sir Celestine Omehia who had just voted at the
unit and left before the incident worried that there were no soldiers at
the units, although had commended the Independent National electoral
commission for the security arrangements.
However, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, has led a team of security personnel in search of the hoodlums.
Meanwhile voting is yet to commence in some unit in the area including that of Amaechi, unit 14.
