A Warri community leader who got terribly angry with his wife during an altercation has gone ahead to do the woman untold harm.

The woman was shot dead by her husband

Chief Michael Ikpuri, the traditional head (Unuevwero) of Edjeba community, Agbarha-Warri Kingdom in Warri South Council Area of Delta State, has reportedly shot one of his wives, Mrs. Igho Blessing Ikpuri to death, The Punch reports.

It was gathered that the incident occurred around 2am on Saturday at Jeddo, a community in Okpe Council Area of the state, over a lingering marital disagreement between the couple.

According to The Punch, the misunderstanding between the couple degenerated on Friday as they locked themselves in their three-bedroom apartment in a serious fight which later resulted in the husband opening fire on his wife.

Mrs. Ikpuri was said to be fleeing when the husband shot her in the head, killing her instantly. The 35-year-old woman was a native of Orogun in Ughelli North Council area of the state.

The chief, however, denied killing his wife, claiming it was armed robbers who had earlier broke into their apartment that shot her. But the deceased’s younger countered his claim and told sympathisers who rushed to the scene following the sound of the gun shot that he was the culprit.

A police source revealed that the suspect later owned up to the killing, but insisted it was a mistake.

The Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, confirmed the incident when contacted. He added that the suspect had been arrested and would be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department Asaba on Monday for further investigation.

Ibrahim noted that gun used by the suspect was an unlicensed gun, adding that the corpse of the victim has been deposited at the morgue of the Warri Central Hospital for autopsy.

“Michael Ikpuri of no 53 Edjeba, Road Warri at about 02:00hrs shot his wife by name Igho Ikpuri (aged 35 years) to death with his gun. The gun is not licensed. Corpse moved to Central Hospital mortuary for autopsy. Investigation in progress and case will be transferred to state CID on Monday,” the Police chief added.
