According to a report by Saturday Punch, the many residents of
Ilobu town in Osun State were shocked as men from the Osun State Police
Command stormed the town and uncovered a ritualist den with some shallow
graves.
The ritualist den which is located inside a big house at Molete
area of the town was on Friday discovered by a team of policemen led by
the Commissioner in the state, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye.
The commissioner of police told Punch Metro that the police acted
on a tip off and they swooped on the den where two persons believed to
be siblings were arrested.
He said that the leader of the syndicate was at large but said the
police were on his trail and would not give up until he was arrested and
everybody, who had connection with the den.
He said, “We acted on a a reliable tip off which led to the
arrest of two brothers of same parents while their kingpin and leader is
still at large.
“Of particular interest was the discovery of a dungeon with
path which connects one of the shrines to another. Several statues and
hundreds of bottles of alcoholic drink were scattered around the shrine.
“Some shallow graves were also seen scattered around the
building but we still investigating to be sure if they are graves of
some of the victims of the fraudsters.”
The CP appealed to the people of the state to always assist the
police by giving them useful information which could help them to
perform their duties better.
He said security of any state or nation could not be left in the
hands of a few security men but added that everybody should be involved.
He stated that policemen could not be everywhere at the same time to
know everything going on.
He said that this was the reason the police needed the cooperation and the support of the people of the state while assuring them that any information given would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
Some residents of the town lauded the police for coming to their
rescue by arresting some of the operators of the shrine, saying they
knew that the suspected criminals carried out nefarious activities in
the building but they were too afraid to confront them.
It will be recalled that a team of policemen and operatives of the
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps had in January 12 uncovered a
den around Ilesa and arrested three men at the place.
